In Greene County district court Joshua Jay Blumberg, 29, of Grand Junction was sentenced May 30 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of child endangerment- bodily injury. The prison term is concurrent to the sentence on a Boone County charge of operating while intoxicated. He was also sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon in Greene County. The Greene County prison terms are consecutive. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Charges of domestic abuse assault- second offense and driving while license barred were dismissed. A charge in magistrate court in which Blumberg was charged with violation of a protective order was also dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Shanntell M Tiernan, 24, of Fort Dodge was sentenced May 27 to a term not to exceed five years in prison with credit for time served after she pleaded guilty to a charge of theft- second degree, amended from theft- first degree. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Second Judicial District Department of Correctional Services for three years. She was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Tiernan must pay $11,129.51 victim restitution and $191.50 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable John R. Flynn)
Obinna Louis Nwobodo, 33, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to one count of child endangerment. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years. He was also sentenced to one year in jail with all but two days suspended on a charge of domestic abuse assault. The sentences will be concurrent if they’re ever served. Nwobodo was fined $855 with a $128,25 surcharge on the child endangerment charge, and $430 with a $64.50 surcharge on the domestic charge; the fines and surcharges were suspended. One count of child endangerment was dismissed, as well as a charge in magistrate court of obstruction of emergency communication. A judgment was entered for restitution not to exceed $500 for Nwobodo’s court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Jason Wayne Morris, 42, of Rippey was sentenced to 10 days in jail with credit for time served after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He must pay restitution not to exceed $500 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $131.50 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Devin Christopher Hackfort, 28, of Jefferson, attempted murder, arson- second degree, eluding- speed more than 25 mph over the limit, harassment- first degree, assault on person in certain occupation- bodily injury, and assault on person in certain occupation (two counts); and Travis Ryan Armstrong, 36, of Scranton, operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense. Trial dates were set for July 22 in both cases.
Cases were initiated in Greene County district court during the week ending May 30 as follows: Gary Dean Reiher, 69, of Grand Junction, indecent exposure; and Taylor Christine Shaw, 33, of Dubuque, possession of marijuana- second offense and driving while license revoked.
